Managing Woodland for Conservation – This article, by Andy Hughes, draws on thirty years of experience of looking after Ancient Semi-natural Woodland for conservation and bio diversity.

It starts by explaining the need for management if we are to achieve the best biodiversity from our woodland and summarises a variety of silviculture practices that can be adopted depending on the priorities. It includes ideas on how to assess what is already there before starting, and practical ways of improving woodland for wildlife.

The article includes a proposed structure and methodology for a management plan. Finally, it describes the work that has been carried out, and the results to date, on the woodland that Andy is responsible for.
